Staying ahead of cutting-edge technology and keep up-to-date with workplace trends in 2018 can be difficult for any business. As our needs and working styles evolve, so does the technology we use, both in the office and at home. Many workplaces have found themselves lagging behind in at least one area of their tech or digital, for many reasons: cost is often a huge factor, with not just the initial outlay for new machinery or software, but also for the cost of employee training and maintenance.

The process of building those bridges can be approached in varying ways, depending on what works for your business: many may find that they can use the same software or computers for different responsibilities, and therefore can effectively approach the situation with a minimalist attitude. Others may find that a mix of legacy and new technology can provide the best result for their needs – spending money on tech that makes sense, and saving where it doesn’t.

As we move towards a more flexible workplace becoming the norm, another way to bridge the gap between old and new technology appears on the horizon: ‘bring your own device’ schemes. This kind of approach makes sense, because employees will be fully engaged with their own technical devices, therefore no training is needed; there’s little point in spending money on a host of new tablets and smart phones when your employees already own them, and likely use them for work purposes too.

As the digital landscape continues to unfold in unexpected ways, moving towards more integrated technology, no doubt our needs in the workplace will change.
