FMX Dear Guru columnist wins best article in journalism accolade from BIFM

FMX contributor Martin Pickard has scooped the best article in journalism award at the 8th annual BIFM International Investors in FM Excellence Awards held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. Pickard's monthly Dear Guru column has appeared in FMX for the last five years.

 

The award, sponsored by Mille, recognised the column's contribution to the FM sector in tackling a range of topics affecting facilities managers in their daily working lives. Presenting the award to the ' man with the golden peu' was Penny Smith, the GMTV presenter. She also introduced BIFM chairman lain Murray, who praised the high standard of all this year’s entries.

 

Other winners included Rio Tinto -best practice in a new build project, for its Paddington regional centre; Nomura International-best practice in a fit-out project, for its client conference and executive suite; and Interserve FM and SECs joint venture, PriDE, which won the sustainability award for implementing sustainable solutions in the management of Defence Estates' south-east Regional Prime Contract.

 

Carillion FM won the customer service excellence gong for its Asbo scheme to eradicate antisocial behaviour at Argent’s One Piccadilly Gardens in London. Facilities manager of the year award went to Sodexo’s Tricia Stanley, who also received the special recognition award alongside Garry Haswell of Reckitt Benckiser, for their contribution to flood relief in Hull last year.

 

The award for impact on organisation and workplace went to EC Harris, for the
work done by its FM team to create an ‘inspirational' working environment. PHS Washrooms' water-saving device Flush-wiser won the innovation (new product) award, while innovation (systems and services) went to Sodexo for its lab instrument services division.

 

RNM Systems' Condeco Workplace Management Software earned it the technology award, Dalkia won the communications and marketing award for the launch of its CarbonCare programme, and Joanne Ray was student of the year.

 

Finally, Cofathec earned a certificate of recognition for the Oldham NHS LIFT project
(best practice in a PPP project).
